Sleigh Bells

My newest source of inspiration.

I have a staunch affinity for well crafted genre bends. As a walking, talking contradiction in my own right, at some point I came to the conclusion I would not let anyone tell me what I could like or couldn't take part in; I wouldn't let them tell me what i could wear and shouldn't, how i should sound when I talk or act around people. It just didn't make much since to me, my life experience growing up was anything from a typical young American minority story, so why should I be forced to conform to any popular aesthetic or social standards. Just not me - and moreover, you're not me. I think this part of my character makeup contributes vastly to how I view creative media. To take many different elements, find the true qualities of what makes them special, extract that essence, and create a finely crafted amalgamated asset is flat out fantastic to me. Its innovation and ingenuity intersecting, and for reasons now known it lights me up when a designer, artist, politician(see: OBAMA) or any individual that approaches an impressionable set in a public forum has this developed and inherent style or quality to them.

All this to say... Sleigh Bells is bangin. You could argue the sound quality is way gritty, but hey that's what makes it quintessentially Punk. You could say it's overwhelming bass heavy, but guess what that's explicitly Hip-hop. You could even say the lead singer, Alexis's lyrics and melodic harmonies aren't very complex, now you got Pop. So what? New sound capturing familiar elements. Raw enough, sweet enough, and groovy enough. It's just Hardcore.

Sleigh Bells- "Rill Rill"
on the light.
